I Will Bear Thee and Deliver Thee
Isaiah 46:3-4
"3 Listen to Me, O house of Jacob, And all the remnant of the house of Israel, Who have been upheld by Me from [a]birth, Who have been carried from the womb: 4 Even to your old age, I am He, And even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; Even I will carry and will deliver you." (NKJV)
Message
Life's journey is filled with seasons of joy, uncertainty, burdens, and trials. At times, the weight of responsibilities, disappointments, or afflictions can seem overwhelming. Yet, in the midst of these challenges, God gives one of the most comforting promises in Scripture: "I will bear... I will carry... and I will deliver you." These words reveal the heart of a loving Father who not only creates His children but also sustains them throughout every season of life.
In Isaiah 46, God contrasts Himself with the idols of Babylon. The idols had to be carried by people because they were powerless. But the God of Israel declares that He is different. He carries His people rather than being carried by them. From birth to old age, His commitment remains unchanged. He does not grow weary, nor does He abandon those who belong to Him.
The promise begins with "I have made." Since God is our Creator, He knows every detail about us. He understands our weaknesses, our fears, and our limitations better than we do. Psalm 103:14 reminds us, "For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust." Because He made us, He knows exactly how to sustain us.
Next comes the promise, "I will bear." To bear means to support, uphold, and sustain. God does not merely watch us struggle from a distance; He comes alongside us, strengthening us by His grace. When life's burdens seem too heavy, He invites us to cast our cares upon Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). No burden is too great for the shoulders of the Almighty.
God also says, "I will carry." This speaks of His tender care and constant presence. Just as a shepherd carries a weak lamb in his arms, God carries His people through difficult seasons. There may be times when you feel too weak to continue, but God's everlasting arms are underneath you (Deuteronomy 33:27). Often, what feels like your own strength is actually His sustaining grace.
Finally, God declares, "I will deliver you." His support is not temporary or incomplete. He carries His people with the intention of bringing them safely through every trial. Deliverance may come in different ways-through divine intervention, supernatural peace, renewed strength, or the wisdom to overcome - but God never abandons those who trust Him.
This promise extends throughout every stage of life. God specifically mentions old age to assure us that His faithfulness does not diminish with time. Human strength may fade, but God's covenant love remains constant. He is faithful to the end.
Whatever burden you are carrying today-whether financial, emotional, physical, or spiritual-remember that you were never meant to bear it alone. The God who formed you has promised to carry you. Lean upon His strength instead of your own. Trust His timing, rest in His promises, and walk confidently knowing that He who bears you will also deliver you.
God's hands are strong enough to uphold you, gentle enough to carry you, and mighty enough to deliver you.
Memory Verse
Isaiah 46:4 (KJV)"Even to your old age I am he... I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you."
Action Point
Take every burden that is weighing on your heart and present it to God in prayer. Instead of carrying your anxieties alone, consciously entrust each one to Him, believing that He is both willing and able to sustain you.
